GREETINGS

With the longer days and the smell of Spring, many familiar faces have come out of hiding and are returning to the skies.  Welcome back!  It's great to see you.  And to the many new faces who have joined the 39N family, we hope your experience here is lots of fun and meets your aviation  expectations.

Please preflight your planes very carefully, checkig for bird nests.  Also please be careful when driving your vehicle to your airplane as the ground is very soft and muddy.  Please don't drive on the grass.

April is a special month for the Nierenberg family as on April 28th, 1967, Dick made a big career change from furniture saleman to managing an FBO.  Those initial rough years looked very grim, however many lessons were learned and the aviation world got a devoted participant.

WINGS SPRING SPECIAL

Pilot Proficiency Program

Let's celebrate spring by returning to the air - safely!  During the month of April, we offer the following for you Private Pilots and higher, to "Earn Your Wings".  Never think that recurrent training isn't necessary - only foolish pilots think like that.  If you own your own airplane, this applies to you, too.

Prepayment Special:  3 hours of dual in your favorite airplane and received 10% discount and a $25 gift certificate for the Pilot Shop.

SAFETY CORNER

We have had more than our share of cross wind conditions lately.  A cross wind discourages many pilots from flying

if they  have not maintained  their proficiency, or who may not have perfected the technique needed for safe cross wind landings.

ATTENTION YOU WWII AVIATION BUFFS!

Thanks to so many of you who identified the
airplane above as a Douglas B-18A, 1937.
Thanks to Dan McGrath, Curtis Jerrens, John
Wilman, Justin Garr, and Jessica Stearns.

STAFF IMPROVEMENTS

We have appointed Assistant Chief Pilot Jeffrey Gerencser to the position of Director of Operations.  As such he will combine his knowledge of flight training and daily operations.  We welcome Jeff in this role.  (He will still be instructing!)

Great news as we went to deadline - CFII James McDonald has joined out staff full time.  Jim was an assistant chief pilot when we were at 47N and he flew with us when we moved here for a short time.  He has thousands of hours instructing and really enjoy teaching.  Recently retired from driving for Yellow Freight, Jim will be an enormous benefit to our tight instructing staff.  Welcome aboard.  If you need an instructor, call us.

Welcome flight coordinator, Anthony Rittwager Jr., who will be working behind the counter while attending the College of New Jersey.
From the Right Seat
by Pete Rafle

Flight following is one of the best services that ATC (approach control, centers, TRSA, etc.) are able to provide general aviation pilots.  It is surprising that many pilots do not ask for flight following.  It is a fact that a large percentage of pilots do not file flight plans, so it is probably true that many of those pilots don't get flight following either.

AIRPLANE OWNERS

When we received a load of 100 octane fuel, the NJ tax is already included in the price at the refinery.  Therefore, the tax that applies to "roads" is not applicable.  You can receive refunds for the fund you use by applying to the:
Division of Taxation
Motor Fuels Tax Section
PO Box 243
Trenton, NJ 08695

You need receipts that show the aircraft number, amount of fuel, cost per gallon and something that states that "All Fuel Taxes Included".

If you need help, see Naomi or Dick.

ATTENTION AIRCRAFT OWNERS
When a load of 100 Low Lead is delivered to the airport, our price includes state and federal taxes which are charged at the refinery. One of these taxes is a "road tax", which is not applicable.  Therefore you can receive a refund of this tax by first acquiring a number and then filing monthly refund forms.

If you write to the following address and ask them for a number for a aircraft for filing:

Division of Taxation
Department of the Treasury
P.O. Box 189
Trenton, NJ 08695-0189

Once you have attained a number you fill out a form and send and return it.  You have six months since the month of purchase to do this, so you can do it for several months at a time.

If you have any questions with it, see Dick or Naomi.

FLYING TIGERS

Our March dinner meeting was attended by 25 members & guests, who listened to our guest speakers from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) talking about the TSA and general aviation.

Unfortunately bad weather forced the cancellation of our March Fly-in, so we look forward to our April 20th Fly-in, hosted by RP Sandilya to a great place (not yet posted).

With the coming of spring, it is a great time to get the joy of flying back into full swing.  Get your airplane ready, join the Flying Tigers, and attend our fly-ins and other activities with your fellow pilots, student pilots or aviation enthusiasts.

A Whole New Look

The new LightSPEED Zulu headset looks different because it is different. Made with magnesium, stainless steel, and four types of composite plastics, it's extremely durable and yet weighs just over 13 ounces.

Inside the Zulu's headband is a core of thin, flexible spring steel, which gives an excellent fit with 40% lower side pressure than the 3G series. Luxurious, soft leather surrounds 'extra wide' earseals made from temperature sensitive foam. Your ears have more space and greater comfort. Calibrated magnesium sliders adjust ergonomically to accommodate your exact head size with uniform pressure. The vented headpad evenly distributes the weight of the headset.

All of the Zulu's wiring is fully concealed using patented design features, and it folds flat for easy storage.
