Well, Autumn is really here with the cool nights, but the warm days and clear skies have been a pilot's dream.  Oh, if we could have this year round - but then again, that would not be New Jersey.  The flying was and is terrific!

September always is a busy month with school reopening and adjusting to a different schedule.  39N was also a hopping place as we were visited by singer, Jimmy Buffet one evening and the great antique show.

The closure for the International Air Rally came last month when the Flying Tigers received a letter of apology with a check for $250.

As seen in the Princeton Packet
AVGAS
Avgas is still in very short supply on the east coast due to the flooding in the midwest.  We are lucky to get a half a load when we are running low.  Of course, this comes at a much higher cost as we have been getting several loads from Canada.  To us there is no logic, but a state of fact that we have to live with.

Jet A is much more stable as it is piped in whereas avgas comes via tanker train cars.
COOLEST GUY VISITS IN CARAVAN ON FLOATS
One beautiful Wednesday evening, a sudden hustle and bustle took place at 39N - Jimmy Buffet flew in in a Caravan to meet a helicopter which swept him away.

Above, Gabrielle, Jack, James and Ken Nierenberg greet Buffet.
CONGRATULATIONS
Monica Agarwal
16th Birthday & 1st Solo
Chief Pilot, Pete Rafle, gingerly cuts Monica's shirt after she successfully completed three take-offs and landings, while her proud family watched, including her grandmother who flew in from India to witness the event.  Pete and Jeff Gerencer worked as a team to assure this event would happen.
ATTENTION
AIRPLANE RENTERS
Refueling airplanes in a timely manner has always been an issue.  Our lineman, Rick, sewed these "ORANGE SOCKS" which the linemen put on the tips of the props when he has refueled the airplanes.  If you are doing any sort of pre-flight, you can't miss this.  (Please put Sock in the back of the plane during your flight.)

From The Right Seat
Chief Pilot, Pete Rafle
New students are taught that all landings must be made in the first third of the runway.  The intent of teaching this is to develop planning, energy managerment, and the discipline of placing the airplane at a precise landing point consistently.

All of us have at one time or another found ourselves high and fast.  Most pilots proceed to a point where it becomes obvious that the airplane will land beyond the first third.  Hopefully this comes early in the approach on final.  That is the moment to initiate the go around and make another try to get it right.

MEET CFII
VEERAL DASS

It never ceases to amaze me what pilots go through to pursue a career in aviation.  This month we are featuring Veeral Dass who has been with us a few months.

Veeral began flight training in Sri Lanka, however due to the political violence, the school closed.  In '96 he came to Oklahoma City for more training and then went back to India.  But the job market was poor there - as it was here after September 11th.  He volunteered with the Federation of Indian Pilots which dealt with aviation safety issues to the new generation of jets.

He returned to the US (Oklahoma) for his CFI ratings and instructed there until 9/11, when again, flight training suffered.

Fortunately he visited 39N with a student friend and we talked him into getting his licenses renewed.  Veeral is married seven years to Purvi and they have a seven year old daugther.

FLIGHT SCHOOL NEWS

The Jeppesen Curricula calls for the use of DVDs to supplement your learning.  Over the years we have purchased many, many sets for your rental and viewing.  We don't think that students intentionally stole the discs, however we have lost all of them.

In an effort to make them available once again, we are going to charge your credit card $25 when you rent them, and give you credit when they are returned, less $2/night.  Hopefully this will keep them in stock for your convenience.  We have the Private Pilot & the Instrument DVDs.

As the days get shorter, more students are vying for weekend scheduling.  We ask that you not schedule more than two weeks in advance to allow equal access.
SAFETY CORNER

Fall is migratory bird season!

Hawks, geese and other migratory birds are heading south beginning in September.  Princeton is under or near several major migratory routes, so Look Out!

It does not take a large bird to cause serious damangae, as can be seen in this photo.  Keep a watchful eye.
