Dear Naomi,

As we continue to enjoy the summer of 2007, we have had lots of good flying weather, a party, and lots of activities.  Some of you are off to college this fall - good luck.  Let's hope this nice weather continues into the fall.

We are actively working on a self-service facility for low lead avgas in addition to our existing service; working on revamping the "rock pile" in the back to be paved; and still pursuing the medical arts building.  So improvements are always in the wings.

We Had the Party, But The Guests-of- Honor Stood Us Up!

After months of planning by the Flying Tigers and others, the 4th of July plans were complete.  Many, many people chipped in financially, physically, and mentally to make the event special for our out-of-town guests from the International Air Rally.  Unfortunately, 45 minutes before they were to arrive, the leaders cancelled.  They were concerned that the weather would prevent them from leaving.  But the weather was overcast and flyable.

But despite our disappointment, we had a great barbecue with lots of food, fun and aviation talk.  Oh, they missed a great day at 39N!

 TRAFFIC PATTERN PROCEDURES!?!

  • "Anyone in the pattern at Princeton?"  Is that one of your calls?
  • Are you making a 5 mile or even a 10 mile final into 39N under VFR conditions?
  • Are you entering the pattern on the crosswind or base leg?

We, who monitor Unicom, and our instructors have heard all of these calls and and seen a whole lot more.  Obviously, they are inappropriate and unsafe.  Additionally, 39N has a lot of student training - but it's not the students who take liberties with the traffic pattern.  It is many of our base customers in a hurry to get to their hangars.

Please enter the traffic on a 45 degree entry on downwind, especially when there are multiple aircraft in the pattern.

Let's keep 39N SAFE!

Attention All Users of 39N

Airports are under constant scrutiny when it comes to the environment.  We go to great lengths to make sure we are in compliance.

The dumpster is for our (airport operations) use only - not any of you.  Someone had the audacity to put a refrigerator in the dumpster, which has prompted us to put up a surveillance camera.  If you are caught, you will be prosecuted to the fullest and invited off the airport.

We can no longer dispose of your drain oil when you change the oil.  YOU are responsible for disposing of it legally.

The New WINGS Program

The FAA has redesigned the WINGS program so that it bears very little resemblance to the old one.  The following is intended to give you a " heads up" on what the differences are and how to get enrolled so you can participate.

The value of participating in the WINGS program is that pilots participating in the program "need not accomplish a Flight Review (BFR) if since the beginning of the 24th

calendar month before the month in which the pilot acts as Pilot in Command, he or she has satisfactorily completed, or currently holds the Basic or Higher Wings - Pilot Proficiency Program phase in an aircraft (ref; 61.56(e)).  So if you participate in the program throughout the year to maintain at least the Basic phase, you will always have a current flight review for your Basic phase and your flight review will move as you continue your safety education.

FLIGHT SCHOOL HAPPENINGS - NOW & THE FUTURE

  • Staff:  Welcome to Roger Mitchell, who is working part-time as a flight coordinator.  In the fall he will be a senior at Princeton High School.
Ben Hochran will be helping us out until he leaves for Boston University- thanks & good luck.
Lori Adams will be working elsewhere, so go gently on the new staff.
  • Are you interested in any of the following classes?  Sign ups are at the front desk and as soon as we have sufficient participation, we will start.
         Private Pilot Ground School Class
         Instrument Ground School Class
Pinchhitters Class - for the significant
other  who flies in the right seat.
  • We require 24 hours cancellation for airplanes and instructors, unless it is weather related.
If it is not an emergency you will be charged
a late cancellation fee of $40/hour.
  • All students who are training with us, we need proof of citizenship on file.  If you haven't given us this, please bring a copy of your birth certificate or your passport.
  • New Knowledge Tests!  This time every year the FAA tweaks the knowledge tests, so you have to buy the latest books.  The 2008 test books are gradually coming into the store.  Make sure you have the latest information.

News from the
PRINCETON AIRPORT

FLYING TIGER

The Flying Tiger's Picnic was a great success, where our members and guests enjoyed a wonderful day with good food, good fun and great conversation. We want to thank our sponsors (Avfuel, David Clark, Avis, Nassau Helicopters, Crate & Barrel, and Bertucci's of North Brunswick), our volunteers, the Civil Air Patrol - Major Ron Wiley, the senior members and cadets, our members who made generous donations, supplied the delicious food and beverages and who volunteered their time to do all the things necessary to create a great event and a special thanks to Nierenbergs for their support, hard work and generous contribution.   Unfortunately due to the forecasted weather our International Air Rally guests missed out on a great July 4th celebration in Princeton.

See you at the August fly-in as Larry West takes the club to Martha's Vineyard.   Sign up on the website paft-nj.org

This & That...

  • We were visited by Raj Shah who soloed & got his Private Pilot's license in 1998 while a student at Princeton.  He is now flying F-16s with the NJ Air National Guard.
  • The subjects of this month's Safety Seminar were suggested by one of our students.  If you have any ideas that would improve 39N, just email us.
