Congratulations Mariko & Ben Weitraub
Ben began working as a line person in '85 while in HS during the summers and on weekends. He soloed on his 16th birthday and earned his wings on his 17th. Then it was on to MIT with a Navy scholarship. He now lives in VA, and doesn't fly often enough
We were all saddened by the death of Tom Roberts. Tom had been flying for years and was a partner in a V-tail Bonanza. Unfortunately he had many medical problems. We'll asll miss this wonderful "gentleman".
Rich and Famous Visit 39N
Several weeks ago Harrison Ford flew into 39N in his Bell jet helicopter. While everyone played it cool, there was no doubt about who he was.
This past week, we were visited by the Secret Service and many other branches of law enforcement. King Abdullah of Jordan was visiting Princeton. Every precaution was made to assure that his visit would be uneventful-sweeping the grounds, dogs sniffing, many plans, and lots of protection. The nine car caravan was a dead giveaway. By the time the King arrived about 8:30 a.m. by helicopter, there were local, county, and state police; there was Secret Service and Jordanian security. The fire department and ambulances were there in case of an emergency.
His visit was brief in the town, and the parade of cars returned. Quickly he got out of the limousine and back into the chopper. And it was all over, safely. It was exciting!
Attention Pilots
Recent observations of the airplanes departing 39N using Runway 28, found several deviations from the published traffic pattern. You are to make a 10 degree right turn at the END of the runway and climb to 900'. No turns before Cherry Valley Road. Please cooperate.
Upgraded FAA Computer Tests
The FAA will be changing the Private, Instrument and ATP tests on June 19th. If you are uptight about what you have studied, take it as soon as possible. Call CATS at 1-800-9470-4228-they know our schedule.
Pinch Hitters' Course
This course is designed for the "significant other" who sits in the right seat. It gives them sufficient information in case of an emergency. Whether someone is apprehensive about flying or just wants to be safer in the air, this is a great venue. We would run it two consecutive Saturday mornings from 10-noon. There is four house of air instruction in the plane the person will most likely to be a passenger.
The class will be $40 per person, and we need at least 10 participants. Why not sign up and let's get this off the ground.
Note: The flight training is done one on one and it is scheduled through the school
Insurance Costs
If you have been reading any of the aviation magazines lately, you will find articles about the enormous increase in flight schools' liabiility renewals. There have been increases from 25% to 100%. Some have shut the doors. We don't know what's ahead, but forewarned is forearmed.
FAR Quiz Show
Only six of you showed up for the evening - well done Bob, Ken, Rami, Larry, and Jim. Too bad the rest of you missed out. The prizes were huge! And it was a painless way to learn.
Attention Renters and/or Students
Please leave the scheduling to our staff. Although we occasionally make mistakes, we can assure you it's better than allowing anyone to schedule. Pas experience has had customers erase others for a particular plane or instructor. We also have to get maximum utilization to hold the line on prices. Just don't do it!
