In Memory

STOSHU

Stoshu used to come to the airport on a regular basis, however as age set in, he decided he wanted to retire. He was best known for his keen hearing – whenever the candy machine dispensed food, he jumped up and begged. Stoshu thanked all who fed him.

Note: Stoshu was named after our friendly banker in Manville who was the only one who would consider giving us a mortgage when we purchased Princeton Airport. Both have left this mortal earth but they are remembered with fondness.

THE RUNWAY’S COMING,

THE RUNWAY’S COMING,

THE RUNWAY’S COMING...

If you have not been to the airport, you are in for a treat – construction on the new runway has finally moved forward with vigor. But with progress there will be some inconveniences. The final product will make this whole effort worthwhile.

During this past week the new runway will get an overlay of blacktop. After that sets the contractors will paint the necessary runway markings. Once the new runway is finished, probably the week of August 6th, we will be able to use it – finally!

The inconvenience will arise while the old runway will be made into the new, full length taxiway. During that construction our access to the new runway will be somewhat restricted. The middle access taxiway will be open and we hope the contractors will give us access on the western side. Please use caution.

Back taxiing will be required and we ask everyone to stay calm, listen to your radios, check notams, and fly courteously . This will continue until the old runway transforms into the new taxiway – a couple of months. We will NOT have to close the runway as previously planned.

More good news – the utility poles on Route 206 will be coming down within the next two months. And pilot controlled runway lighting will also begin.

Next question – who is going to be the first one to land? Guess!

Congratulations to Alan & Sandy Sherman on the wedding of their eldest son. We remember him when he tagged along when dad was learning to fly.

Welcome to 39N Robin Hodgkin and your Piper Saratoga.

FYI:

To those of you who travel to the airport via Route 518, please be aware that the mighty bridge that crosses the Millstone River is being replanked. This will take about 1-2 weeks. Continue south on Rt. 27 about 2-3 miles. Immediate after crossing the Millstone River turn right. That road will take you to Rt. 518 where you will turn left and continue.

39N IN THE NEWS

The public relations firm for the national "Be A Pilot" program has discovered our airport and our operation. Some of you might have come to us via this program. It was initiated nationwide to reverse the declining numbers of student starts and new pilots.

They have been using our great instructor to give introductory flying lessons to a writer from Women’s Day, a radio chain in the NYC area, and last week, a senior writer for Time magazine.

The entourage arrived about noon and left at 5:30. Chuck Taylor did his stuff and Be A Pilot was extremely impressed. We will give you a heads up as to when Time will run this article.

"Be A Pilot" is trying to educate the media so they will speak or write about flight training and debunk

News From The Princeton Airport’s Flying Tigers

Our annual picnic was a huge success with over 80 members and their guests. One lucky member (Art Marsh held the winning 50/50 ticket and he went home with an extra $104.) Door prizes were won by Igal & Jay. This was the best picnic yet. Get ready for next year. Thanks to all who set up and cleaned up.

Sixteen members participated in the July Fly In to Cape May and enjoyed lunch at Uncle Bill’s. The weather was perfect except for a few bumps coming home.

August 19th Fly In: Martha’s Vineyard. ETA at MVY @ 11:00 a.m. A van will take us into town and we will eat brunch at the Lobster Shanty. Call Lou 609-490-1494 or e-mail N736QM@aol.com.

COMMUNICATE

Attention all students and pilots: Carl Lue Chung is going to take you on an imaginary trip where you have to TALK, or as they say in aviation – COMMUNICATE. We certainly would not send a student pilot on this trip, but together, you will learn how the proper lingo can be your friend. Don’t let "communication" prevent you from visiting new places.

Tuesday, August 28th

7-10:00 p.m.
