Congratulations on your recent marriages...Mary Beth & John Dowbachuk and Former RVFS flight instructor, Joe Martinez, who was married in March. Joe lives in Puerto Rico and works for American Eagle.
More News:
Congratulations, Andy and Mimi Chu on the birth of their son. Welcome to the CFII, Chris Garber family, a baby boy. Good Luck to former instructor, David Zydiak, who will be flying with Jet Blue.
A Reminder to Aircraft Owners: RVFS provides fuel, instruction and pilot supplies. PAC is maintenance, tie-downs, and hangars. Please do not combine payments!
Weather Gotcha Down? Let's hope we have a long, long Indian summer. We deserve it and so do you.
FYI: Since airplanes have been making headlines these past few weeks, perhaps you have been asked questions by non-fliers. The Division of Aeronautics released some statistics which uphold our belief in the safety of flying. Misconception: NJ skies are dangerously crowded. Fact: FAA's registration office show that the number of small planes based in NJ has declined 2.3% since '95. Note: NJ added 300,000 cars and trucks to its roads during the same period. Very interesting!
Have You Checked Your NOTAMs Today? You might want to get into the habit, since NOTAMs pop-up frequently. With the political campaign getting into full swing, who knows who might be in the area for a quick visit. And you don't want to be the one to lose.
And to Chris Stern, welcome as our new flight coordinator. He holds several FAA ratings. Good luck Ryan Boyd in your new endeavors.
We Need Your Help!!! Too many people have been parking their cars on the ramp area, the tie-down area, and on the grass. Please park in the parking lots only. If you are a tie-down or have a T-hangar, you may park your car inside or on the tie-down - not on the ramp, taxiways, nor on the grass. We must have access for emergency vehicles as well as airplanes.
A Tribute to Doug
It is almost two years since Doug Fritz, our long time friend and aviator par excellence, died. It is difficult to find an appropriate tribute to someone like Doug, who generously shared his love of aviation with so many.
Bryan Boyle, who had many a lesson and check ride with Doug, has received approval from the FAA to name a Victor Airway after him. Effective October 5th, the KOINE intersection will be renamed DFRTZ. ("Fritz" is being used in Alaska).
So as you fly those airways, remember those wonderful rides with Doug. We are sure he'll be smiling on you, and reminding you to use more rudder!
Welcome New Flight Coordinators
Let's lend a helpful hand and speak slowly while new flight coordinators Rokyatu Kiawu and Tiffany Prioleau learn to speak "aviation". Be patient and explicit with them - they are learning quickly.
All In the Day of an Airport...
You probably were unaware that 39N was impacted by President Clinton's visit to the central Jersey region. Although initially approached to have Marine I stay here, it was decided that it would land elsewhere. Tracon determined that we were within the three mile radius and had to close all flights to and from the airport. Fortunately, the weather deteriorated and there was no flying. We later found out that all of the stops were not within three miles.
The other side of it was that we were pleased that he was campaigning for Congressman Rush Holt who has been a supporter of the airport and aviation.
We will never forget the voting record of Congressman Holt's opposition, Dick Zimmer. When he was in the State Legislature, he was against anything to do with airports or aviation. Then he moved on to Congress. With his power in Washington, he single-handedly fought 39N's status when we became a reliever airport and he held a hearing locally which was conducted like an inquisition. He's no friend of Princeton Airport nor general aviation! We will not forget him on election day and hope you won't either.
