It’s a Brand New Runway – 10/28!!!!!

After years of waiting we got word from the contractor on Friday, August 3rd, that we could open the runway on Monday the 6th.  So we hastily tried to publicize the event.

At noon on the 6th before a crowd of about 60 people airport manager,  Ken Nierenberg, became the first official pilot to take off.  With his brand new American Champion airplane, Ken came in low and cut the ribbon.  Despite the overcast day, everyone was thrilled that this phase of the project was completed.  He then landed!

There will continue to be some inconvenience during the construction of the taxiway, but if the runway is any indication of the final product, we will endure.

The NJ Division of Aeronautics can not trace when the last NEW runway was built in this state.  Once again, 39N makes history.

We will all celebrate when this is done.

“I could see it from the airliner with no problem, flying in from Florida,” stated a customer coming to buy a plane.

“I could see the new runway through the haze at 1000’ coming over the Delaware”, exclaimed CFII Pete Rafle.

“I can’t make a good landing – it’s too long,” said a base customer who shall remain anonymous for his protection.

FANTASTIC! FINALLY! GREAT!    WOW,

 a real airport.

We’re In The News Again & Again!

If you watched New Jersey News 12 and CNN Local, you had the good fortune of seeing 39N and Dick Nierenberg’s smiling face, while talking about the new runway.  The press has also covered the runway opening extensively.  Check out the bulletin board in the lobby.  It’s been good press for a change – how nice.

Names from the Past:

Regards from Tom Pollio, former flight coordinator, who is out of the Air Force, married, one child and he is flying for Southwest Airlines.

And from Hans Kimm, who flew with us at Kupper when he was in high school, is now a major in the Air Force flying all sorts of planes.

And Chris Chu & Karen Kaplan tied the knot just before Chris started training with Jet Blue.

Dear Students,

We know that you have wanted to fly more frequently than the schedule has allowed, but we have tried our best to give each of you a chance.  We have been actively seeking more CFIs and hope some will be on board soon.  The summer crush is almost over and we think we will have an easing on appointments.  Please bear with us.

Welcome to 39N;

     Rob Kirby & your Comanche,

Lawrence Hegarty & your Cessna 172,

      And welcome back, Claudio Zancani.

What an exciting time to be based here!

Attention Private Pilots:  Are you interested in an Instrument class this fall?  If we can get a sufficient attendance, we would probably start a session some time in October.  Call for information.  Don’t get caught away from home and have to stay because of the weather.

Dodie Riach Memorial Scholarship

The North Jersey Ninety-Nines will offer a scholarship for a local pilot in an effort to promote general aviation.  If  you are interested, call Lynn O’Donnell, 973-983-1271 or lynnbird@compuserve.com.

For those who are unfamiliar with the 99s, they are a group of women pilots who promote safety and general aviation.
