June will hopefully be the turning point for the miserable weather 2014 has brought us and aviation, and every aspect of our lives.We have had some wonderful flying weather of late, and it is great to see some of you who have been in hibernation.
In the next few days we will be getting some new planes for sale, new staff, and we’re ready to get into the summer mode. Come and join us.

Self-Serve has been inoperable for since the old tanks were taken out of commission, November 22, 2013. As of this writing, the 100LL Self Serve is fully functional AND, a dime cheaper than full serve.
Since the installation, our AWOS (Automated Weather Observation System) has been intermittent at best. After review of the situation with members of the NJDOT and engineers from DIGI-WX, they were able to identify the situation and make the necessary action to make it a viable, working AWOS.

Let’s briefly review radio communications at non-towered airports (including 39N). The AIM (refer to section 4-1-9) states that “inbound traffic should monitor and communicate on CTAF from 10 miles to landing.” Be particularly aware of operations such as parachute dropping, gliders, and special ops at airports conducting these activities. Alexandria, Penn Ridge, Blairstown, and Orange County, NY are examples of these airports.
Listen for traffic indicating the landing runway and the apparent volume in the pattern. If there is an automatic weather reporting system on the field, activate to obtain wind information. If there is no such equipment listen to a nearby controlled field’s AWOS or ATIS. PLEASE CONTINUE READING

Garmin makes the GDL 88 and the starting price is $6,000 installed. Check for details on the Garmin website on what and how ADSB works.
PAFT welcomed the return, however slowly, of warmer temperatures and more daylight to make up for lost flying time this winter. After a summer break, dinner meetings will resume on Wednesday, September 10th at Cafe Graziella in Hillsborough.
