Back to School
The lazy, hazy days of summer are quickly coming to an end.  For pilots it was one of our top ten summers.  We hope you had to opportunity to enjoy those clear days.
The only glitch was the price of fuel which soared last month.  We hope this is a temporary issue, and normal prices will return.
Here’s to a beautiful autumn.

From the Right Seat
by Assistant Chief Pilot Peter Rafle
In the past, I have described some of my favorite aviation themed museums, books and movies.  This summer, I traveled to Ottawa, Canada.  Besides being the capitol of Canada, Ottawa, a beautiful Victorian city on the banks of the Ottawa River, is the site of the Canada National Aviation and Space Museum.  It is only a short drive from center city to Rockcliffe Airport which is next to the former Canadian Forces Base Rockcliffe.
I have always had an interest in the early pioneering flights in Canada.  It is a vast country that was difficult to explore and develop before the airplane was available.  Early aviators in the 1920’s and 30’s enabled mail and supplies to be delivered to remote mining and logging operation in the bush country from Quebec in the east  to Northern Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia.  Many of the aircraft they flew are on exhibit here.  Are you familiar with any of these: Fairchild 82, Curtiss “Canuck” (JN-2), Curtiss HS-2L seaplane, Curtiss Model F (seaplane), Fairchild FC-1,2, Fleet Model 80, Junkers W 34, Noorduyn Norseman (seaplane- floats), Stinson Reliant.  All of these historic airplanes are in beautiful condition.

Happy 5775!

It’s tempting to say that this summer’s near-perfect weather is just compensation for this past winter. Or maybe it’s just the “Butterfly Effect.”  Whatever the reason PAFT pilots have taken full advantage of it.
As fall approaches we kick off PAFT’s 2014-2015 meeting season on Wednesday, September 10, at Cafe Graziella on Route 206 in Hillsborough at 6:00 p.m.
Then on Sunday, September 21 we’re off to Block Island for the Larry West memorial fly-in.  Guests are always welcome at PAFT events.  For more info, visit www.paft-nj.org .
